Super Luxe Summer

Summer is in full swing and the heat is on! Bangles stack up the arm, necklaces layer over our favorite tanks and most importantly - our hair is pulled back to showcase our prize possessions: earrings! Hoops may be your first love, bursts of color might do the trick or is it over the top sparkle that gets you going? One, two or all three might work for you and in that case...it's time to start (or grow!) your collection.

This season is all about the statement earring! They will spruce up any and all of your favorite looks from your sweet white frocks to a bold print romper. Big earrings are the way to go from day to night for instant chic. Play with color, go for a unique silhoutte, get glam with sparkle or play up your girly side with subtle feminine details. Check out a selection of our favorites from designers including Miguel Ases, Dana Kellin, Coralia Leets, LK & Rodrigo Otazu. Be sure to visit Fragments.com for even more!

Las Vegas Couture!

It’s been awhile since I have blogged, forgive me but we have had so much going on! As usual, there are lots of exciting things occurring at Fragments and I am thrilled to highlight some of the most recent happenings.

We returned in early June from a very successful & energetic Couture show in Las Vegas. What a week! Stores were ready to buy and designers were proud to show their newest collections. Fragments was excited to showcase 15 designers this year including the launch of Nak Armstrong, Mizuki, Suzanne Kalan, Shaesby, Nam Cho, Annie Fensterstock, Moritz Glik, Colette, Vibe’s, Yewn, Katie Decker, Borgioni, Wendy Yue, Gabrielle Sanchez and Lena Skadegard. Each designer had something fresh to bring to the table and the response was tremendous!!

Mixed metals took a front seat this year as a trend worth highlighting. Although we’ve seen it before, it stood out as an important element for all of us to work into our jewelry wardrobes. Moritz Glik showcased his signature 18k yellow gold mixed with oxidized silver, Annie Fensterstock’s 22k yellow and blackened silver was also a big hit and there were edgy mixes of rose gold and blackened gold at Colette.

There were also major touches of color by way of bold gemstones, colored diamonds and more. Offset by subtle metals, these stones really popped and reminded the buyers that “wow factor” investment pieces are key for their selection. Luscious green turquoise, carved coral and boulder opals were standouts at Wendy Yue and the fire opal at Colette made a huge splash. Nam Cho also showcased color in an array of rubies, blue sapphires and emeralds – these shades appeared mostly in her “bullseye” collection which merchandised beautifully with her newer more diamond & moonstone focused pieces. Super luxurious in look and feel, many of Nam Cho’s new pieces are convertible – pendants turn into pins, earrings are detachable, etc. We also saw some convertible/detachable pieces at Katie Decker, giving buyers the opportunity to wear one piece multiple ways. In Katie’s collection, amethyst drops could be removed from a pair of earrings to give way to a more simple, streamlined look. She also showed pendants and charms that could be mixed and matched with different chains – a great opportunity for collectors!

We noticed the “Not Your Grandmother’s Pearls” theme in an array of designers, all of whom put their own twist on the ultra-feminine, underwater favorite. Lena Skadegard, Gabrielle Sanchez and Vibe’s were major standouts in this category but we also saw pearl touches over at Wendy Yue, Colette and Katie Decker. There was a pearl for everyone – be it super luxe and sophisticated, playful and unique, bohemian and casual or traditional and classic – you could not miss this trend!

Creatures were crawling all over this years Couture show, too! Bugs, snakes, dragonflies and more were buzzing and slithering around hoops, bangles, oversized pendants and showstopping rings. Borgioni has this look down to a science and they are a favorite of many. Vibe’s displayed a few subtle bug touches as well and Colette took them to another level in carved labradorite and diamonds. Another creature classic is Wendy Yue who almost always infuses nature inspiration into her work. These designers make creepy crawlers tres chic!

I also want to congratulate our designer, Moritz Glik, who won a Couture Award in the Diamonds Under $20,000 category. What a well-deserved win – it was such a special night for him & Fragments is SO proud!

Stay tuned…I’ll be talking about these trends and lots more all season long!

Love,
Janet

Jordan Alexander!

This was a very exciting and special week for Fragments and our newest fine jewelry designer, Jordan Alexander. I am thrilled to share the news with you all. Last Sunday, March 20th, Jordan Alexander was featured in the Sunday Styles section of The New York Times.

The designer’s pave diamond kiss earrings were beautifully displayed along with a fantastic write up about our newest talent! Just one day after, First Lady Michelle Obama lit up Santiago, Chile in Jordan Alexander jewelry at an official dinner at La Moneda Palace hosted by Chile's President Sebastian Pinera and First Lady Cecilia Morel de Pinera. The renowned fashion icon and role model for women wore Jordan Alexander’s pave diamond “kiss” earrings (the same ones that were in the Times!) and two strands of navy Baroque Chinese South Sea pearls adorned with diamond accents. We are honored & excited to see our First Lady showcasing emerging talent in such a unique way. Our designer’s navy pearls were the perfect complement to the feminine neckline & deep magenta color of the First Lady’s Sophie Theallet dress. A modern and fresh perspective on classic pearls, this look was unexpected, effortless and beautiful. Take note jewelry buffs & collectors: these are the NEW pearls! How about a bit of background on the designer…and I’ll also tell you how you can add these pieces to your own jewelry boxes!

The Jordan Alexander collection is designed by Los Angeles & New York-based Theresa Bruno. Named after her sons, Jordan & Alexander, the collection blends luxurious elements like Tahitian pearls, diamonds and rubies with unexpected bohemian touches like macramé, sandalwood, turquoise, moonstone and lava beads. Inspired by her Southern roots as well as her grandmother’s and mother’s exquisite estate-like personal jewelry collections, the designer sought to create beautiful, but everyday wearable fine jewelry that would represent her own free-spirited style. The best part of all of this is that you too can get our First Lady’s look on Fragments.com and in our store in New York City (Fragments, 212.334.9588.) Both strands of pearls (16” & 42”) as well as the earrings and more Jordan Alexander jewelry are available for purchase. Stay tuned for more news every week and thank you for following me! Love, Janet

Spring 2011: Color!

Spring 2011 is just around the corner and Fragments is focused! We love color right now because we’ve been dressed in black all season and Spring is just seven days away. I would like to share with you some of my favorite Fragments trends to get you ready for a bright season. The big color is HONEYSUCKLE! All different bold, beautiful and juicy shades of pinkish red, orange and coral. This was shown on the runways in apparel, handbags, shoes and most importantly, its showing up as a perfect accent color in your jewels. This cool Huichol cuff for that essential splash of color goes with just about everything and the price is right!

Phillips Frankel, Kala and Isharya also have excellent pieces that fall into the “honeysuckle” category like this pave ruby infinity pendant which is “infinitely” wearable, the very bohemian (and a layering must-have) piece from Kala and this statement making Isharya cuff! I also recommend these CZ and garnet Azaara earrings. This color story is versatile, flattering to every complexion and fresh; I encourage you to give it a try. Have fun with it and make it part of your updated wardrobe that shows you are on point!

Another important and exciting trend that we are seeing has touches of neon as well as hints of coral and turquoise. Check out LK Designs for dramatic (and lightweight, easy to wear) silhouettes, MAJOR neon accents as well as great coral and turquoise combinations. Miguel Ases’ Spring collection also features beautiful coral & turquoise hues, as well as a lavender and orange color story, which totally reminds me of my hippie days! You can see it in our store (116 Prince Street, NYC, 212.334.9588) and stay tuned… pieces will be available shortly on our website!

Our FRAGMENTS collection is also very cool, and all about a rainbow of gorgeous colors. Our hoops, bangles and disco ball bracelets are special favorites and a perfect way to incorporate bold color and sparkle into your everyday looks. We’re all about stacking the bangles, mixing them with the disco ball bracelets and experimenting with a bevy of colors. Don’t forget the hoops for added glamour; at just $58, they are everyday wardrobe staples and meant for collecting! The hoops are available in our store now and will be on our website in the next couple of weeks…feel free to call our store – 212.334.9588 to order your pair before they sell out!

Don't you just love fashion! Its all in the details, so spring right into color this season!

What are some of your favorite colors and how do you plan to infuse them into your Springtime style? Send me pics, feedback and of course any questions! Thank you for following me; I will be back soon!

Love,
Janet

PS - stay tuned for new designer CORALIA LEETS...who is all about color and phenomenal price points. We'll be introducing her shortly on our website, on our Facebook and of course on our blog!
